Reminiscence; Rediscovering Memories...

Zara Chan 4A- Head of Department Corporate Relations

follow Zara as she guides us through her path of a councillor, one which led her to leave footprints in our hearts...

My entire experience of being with the Dunman High School Student Council has been a very fulfilling and enjoyable one. These past 3 years, SC has grown from strength to strength as a student body and through this growth, I have also learnt much from the teachers and other councillors. We’ve all had many happy memories together, be it during the annual camps, outings, and orientation etc =)

It wasn’t too long ago when I was just a newly-recruited SC back in my Sec 2 days, when I was still very ignorant (well some may say I still am now -.-). These 3 years have simply flashed past and now we’re all coming to the end of our term in SC. When I look back, it really seems funny to remember all the silly things we did together, such as laughing at the most incredulously unfunny things, doing many spontaneous actions that made ourselves look silly etc. But well, it’s all in the name of fun. =)

One of the most memorable experiences then was the planning of DHS Voyage 2006 with the committee of that year. We practically spent our entire holiday camped at the Tanjong Rhu campus while planning activities, painting banners and getting all dirty, ordering in tons of macs and laughing over meals, all the memories just come flashing back right now as I type this :)

I really am thankful for getting to know such a great bunch of friends through whom I have learnt from and had fun with, especially those of the EXCO 2007 and all teachers in charge. In the 1+ year that this EXCO worked together, I have learnt so much from the other exco members all of whom are wonderful people. Our regular meetings in the morning has become a perpetual habit up till now, so much so that it feels funny not to see them in the morning. (classic example: idmi week!! Hahaha)

Also, I would like to thank the teachers who have always been a guiding figure to me. They lead through examples and are always there to encourage and develope us, making sure that we’re walking on the right path. Besides making sure that we’re on task and mentoring us, I feel that they have also gone the extra mile to be a personal figure in our lives, instead of just being a teacher to us. They’ve always done whatever they can to help us and care for our welfare and I really appreciate all that they’ve done for us, and for me personally. =)

Having said all that, I would not want to forget the rest of the darlings from the rest of SC especially those from CR! It is my privilege to get the chance of heading this department of lovely people with Ming Quan. CR is a group of fun-loving people who know how to work hard and play hard. We’ve handled morning announcements, spent weekends together doing up the calendars, having early morning meetings headed by sleepyhead me and energetic mingquan. All these were times worth remembering as I got to know more and more of each member than I did before. We also had our funtimes together especially during the camps where deeper bonds were forged and skills were learnt.

All in all, I would wanna thank everyone who has made an impact on me through this SC journey. SC is a big warm family that is dedicated to serving the school and I really hope that this passion will just continue burning in everyone’s heart! It is important that we find meaning in what we do in SC and not do it just for the sake of doing it. It is saddening that we Year 4s have to step down already, but do not forget us cos’ I’m sure we all won’t forget you all.

Here’s wishing DHSSC ALL THE BEST with all future endeavours. I’m gonna miss all of ya’ll! =)
