Reminiscence; Rediscovering Memories

Diao Tian Hui- Corporate Relations

Be inspired by Tian Hui's most touching reflection on her experience as an SC...

Joining the SC family only at the end of last year, I am probably one of the youngest members though I am leaving SC junior section now. The past year as in SC was an invaluable experience for me.

I still vividly recall the scared me when I first stepped into the hostel reading room for the SC in-house camp last November. I was so worried that I could not communicate well with others because of my poor language foundation. But later I found out that my worries then were so unnecessary as my group mates were such wonderful people that they cheered me up by saying “it is ok” and telling me that I do have what it takes, I just needed a little bit more of courage. I remember Dinah, my group leader made an effort to talk to me in Chinese, just to get me involved. I was so touched and realized that SCs are not a bunch of highly disciplined serious people but caring and fun-loving friends.

I have been a student councilor for nine months, I had learned, I had sown and I have grown. Through participating in events like Year 1 Orientation and Youth day Celebration, I improved my communication and leadership skills. By working with different people for the preparation of Chinese New Year Celebration and school tour, I have learned to be willing to appreciate other people’s excellence positively, as everyone in SC is so great. This had inspired and sparked my creativity and also brought me precious camaraderie with my fellow SCs.

SC had made me proud but it also comes with responsibility. From the moment I received the SC badge from Mr Sng at the investiture, I told myself and had been constantly reminding myself to uphold a good image of a student leader whatever I do and wherever I go.

SC work sometimes put pressure on my busy timetable, but it depends on how you look at it because the way I see it is that the tight schedule had taught me to plan and do everything efficiently with strictly no procrastination.

Now it’s the time for passing down, I just want to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone, for being there and helping me all along. I wish that exco 07/08 will bring SC to greater heights and of course, with everyone else’s contribution and effort. LET’S MAKE A DIFFERENCE! =)

Reminiscence; Rediscovering Memories...

Zara Chan 4A- Head of Department Corporate Relations

follow Zara as she guides us through her path of a councillor, one which led her to leave footprints in our hearts...

My entire experience of being with the Dunman High School Student Council has been a very fulfilling and enjoyable one. These past 3 years, SC has grown from strength to strength as a student body and through this growth, I have also learnt much from the teachers and other councillors. We’ve all had many happy memories together, be it during the annual camps, outings, and orientation etc =)

It wasn’t too long ago when I was just a newly-recruited SC back in my Sec 2 days, when I was still very ignorant (well some may say I still am now -.-). These 3 years have simply flashed past and now we’re all coming to the end of our term in SC. When I look back, it really seems funny to remember all the silly things we did together, such as laughing at the most incredulously unfunny things, doing many spontaneous actions that made ourselves look silly etc. But well, it’s all in the name of fun. =)

One of the most memorable experiences then was the planning of DHS Voyage 2006 with the committee of that year. We practically spent our entire holiday camped at the Tanjong Rhu campus while planning activities, painting banners and getting all dirty, ordering in tons of macs and laughing over meals, all the memories just come flashing back right now as I type this :)

I really am thankful for getting to know such a great bunch of friends through whom I have learnt from and had fun with, especially those of the EXCO 2007 and all teachers in charge. In the 1+ year that this EXCO worked together, I have learnt so much from the other exco members all of whom are wonderful people. Our regular meetings in the morning has become a perpetual habit up till now, so much so that it feels funny not to see them in the morning. (classic example: idmi week!! Hahaha)

Also, I would like to thank the teachers who have always been a guiding figure to me. They lead through examples and are always there to encourage and develope us, making sure that we’re walking on the right path. Besides making sure that we’re on task and mentoring us, I feel that they have also gone the extra mile to be a personal figure in our lives, instead of just being a teacher to us. They’ve always done whatever they can to help us and care for our welfare and I really appreciate all that they’ve done for us, and for me personally. =)

Having said all that, I would not want to forget the rest of the darlings from the rest of SC especially those from CR! It is my privilege to get the chance of heading this department of lovely people with Ming Quan. CR is a group of fun-loving people who know how to work hard and play hard. We’ve handled morning announcements, spent weekends together doing up the calendars, having early morning meetings headed by sleepyhead me and energetic mingquan. All these were times worth remembering as I got to know more and more of each member than I did before. We also had our funtimes together especially during the camps where deeper bonds were forged and skills were learnt.

All in all, I would wanna thank everyone who has made an impact on me through this SC journey. SC is a big warm family that is dedicated to serving the school and I really hope that this passion will just continue burning in everyone’s heart! It is important that we find meaning in what we do in SC and not do it just for the sake of doing it. It is saddening that we Year 4s have to step down already, but do not forget us cos’ I’m sure we all won’t forget you all.

Here’s wishing DHSSC ALL THE BEST with all future endeavours. I’m gonna miss all of ya’ll! =)

HELLO GUYS!

THANKS FOR MAKING TONIGHT SUCH A BLAST! I'LL NEVER FORGET THIS LOVELY FAMILY I HAVE!

It's only with you guys that my life is complete. There were times when the things we did consumed really a lot of time. We could have spent the time doing other things but we chose to be with each other and we still did have fun. Really do treasure your time in SC because time really does fly espcially when you're having great times with the council!

I love all of you for being such wonderful people. Thanks so much for bringing much joy and meaning to my life. I really wish I can give every single one of you a hug! Seeing how sweet all of you were tonight I'm really touched. I feel so blessed to have all of you. Thanks for the effort and the xin yi! =) & thanks to those who wrote the little notes to me too!

Although I'll still see you all around in school, I will definitely miss having camps and working with you all. But at least I know I have no regrets at all. The past three years in SC has been a memorable time. :)

Wishing you guys all the best and bring SC and DHS to greater heights! Live the legacy. =)

A little short post here from me to you guys!

To EXCO 07: So many things I'd like to say, thank, do and reminisce over. Things have been tough sometimes and I probably wouldn't have emerged through adversity as good enough if you guys weren't there supporting and encouraging! Will kind of miss the times we sat in the foyer as a warm up to the day :D

To EXCO 08: Congratulations! All of you are outstanding and we do hope you'd continue to lead the way and continue to let the SC spirit burn even stronger! Learn from the mistakes we have made and let DHS be even a more vibrant school! :D

To my beloved Level Council: I am sooo proud of you guys for the challenge day event. Really really proud :D From the discussions we had and all the pool of ideas formed, to the planning (proposals!) to the execution.. You all did all that with such enthusiasm and take pride in what you're doing I'm extremely grateful to have you guys in our departments. There might be some glitches here and there, but we've completed all the levels' Challenge Day 07! It turned out well I must say and hopefully this first step we've taken for Level Council will pave the way for many other events!

(To TJ, Gillian, Yixiang and Sumei, thank you exceptionally for undertaking the role as ICs beautifully, your enthusiasm and initiativeness has touched both HODs :D)

To the next LC HOD: Hmm, when we know who is it, congrats and good luck with everything you do, and learn from the mistakes and some of the difficulties we have conquered and.. Love you lah :D Haha!

<3 Level council!

To DHSSC: I really am thankful for be part of this warm, dedicated family and hopefully the spirit will continue to shine on, and you guys will still find meaning and fulfillment and take pride in your roles as SCs!

Meanwhile, good luck for preparation for exams (See you during the coming handover!)

A PERSONAL NOTE TO MY BELOVED EXCO 06/07 from Yu Ru:

sigh.. so fast and the sc is going to be under a whole new exco..

i really really miss the times when we the exco would meet together to discuss for the events which we were planning, when we get frustrated together, when we had to endure long hours of meeting together, when we had dinners together... we were a group mixed with different personalities, but we still managed to come together and have so much fun and so many good moments together!

I WILL MISS YOU ALL!

all the good times, bad times, happy times, sad times... will always be remembered. but i know that we will always be together even after we pass down to the next batch, we will miss each other...

I LOVE YOU GUYS, EXCO 06/07! YOU GUYS ROCK MY LIFE!
my life was never the same after i met you guys!
